We have been trying to find time for two years now to make use of some Rose geranium plants that were kindly given to us by a local geranium grower. At last we have made our first batch of Rose Geranium Jelly and wow, this is just lucious, so aromatic and pretty. I want to make some fluffy white scones, beat up some cream and get out the tea cups, this Jelly will make an occasion of any time it is served. We are only selling it in the Moutere Gold Farmstore or perhaps the Nelson Market, if you want to try some give us a call.

And finally French Birds – tea towels, this new design from Ingrid Anderson comes in five colourways, all instore, and I just love them. Till next time happy cooking!

Just a thought, as its so hot, have you tried Elderflower cordial with plenty of ice, tonic water and a slice of lemon. Its so refreshing and a good non-alcoholic alternative to gin. Lulus cordial is made here in the Moutere and another gorgeous product we are proud to sell here in the Moutere Gold farmstore.

And as for Moutere Gold, well its plum season, lots of gorgeous organic plums from Maiseys Rd. We are busy trialling plum sauce recipes for a new product, as well as pulling in the Black doris for the chutney. We also make Damson cheese and its available instore, along with the vintage varieties of eating plums by the bag, just to eat. If you need plums to cook your own family recipe we have plenty of Omega available, just ask. Talk soon.

We have attended for the last 5 years and it is always a great day. There is always a good vibe there and it is fantastic to wander the stalls and see what wonderful things people are creating and producing. I always find it inspirational. Not just for food but all sorts of wonderful items.

Popping into the kitchen yesterday I discovered Mary and Sue had the benches covered in Carrot and Mustard Seed Chutney, and Lemon Olives, it looked so colourful and gorgeous I just had to take photos of all their hard work and show the world!

The Carrot and Mustard Seed is a flavour revelation, I never knew carrots could taste so moorish. It is good enough to eat on its own from the jar, but how I really like it is with a bit of Meadowcroft Goats Cheese from Golden Bay, yummy. MMM Meadowcroft cheese highly recommended, its a fresh soft white goats cheese, not strongly goaty in flavour and fantastic just to eat but also for cooking, try topping some onion tarts with goats cheese before cooking.

The fruit mince production has been underway for a while, it is such a textured aromatic mixture. The best part is adding the brandy at the end before you mix it up, just lavishly pouring it over, then the next best part is opening the lid everyday before it is bottled to give it a bit of a mix and getting that heady mixture of fruit and brandy. It is so old fashioned but soooooo delicious, and good things never really go out of fashion.
